Gone are the days when people kept photos in photo albums. Today everyone keeps their favorite photos on their smartphones. It’s very convenient and doesn’t require much space. Especially nowadays everyone takes photos mostly on their phones. But what to do if you lost your phone or it broke? To save your memories, in that case, will help cloud services, such as Google Photos.
Google Photos is a cloud service for storing photos or videos you take on your phone. You can upload your photos there and access them from any device with a Google account. With the app, you can manage all your files in a couple of clicks. It does not matter if you have dozens or hundreds of them. This is a very practical and free way to store your home or work photo collections.
How to count all the photos in Google Photos
All photography has now gone digital. Everyone uses digital cameras or smartphones all the time. Not surprisingly, most people have thousands of photos or more. That’s a lot more than your phone can hold. In that case, it makes sense to send some or even all of your photos to the cloud. But what if you want to know how many pictures you have stored there? Google Photos makes it pretty easy, all you have to do is :
- Navigate to your Google Dashboard on your computer and log in
- Scroll down until you find Google Photos
- Click on it
- You should see an Album count and a photo count. This is the exact number of photos in your cloud
Also, keep in mind that this number is not always correct, it also takes into account images in Google Hangouts and other places. That’s why this function only gives an approximate number of photos in your cloud.
For a more accurate answer, you can go to the Google Photos website and click on “Albums”, then simply add up the number of photos in each album and get a more accurate figure. It is a little more complicated but much more accurate than the first option.
How to save space in the Google Photos cloud
If you find that you have too many photos even for the cloud and you are running out of space, it makes sense to reduce the space you take up on the cloud a bit. By default, Google Photos uploads images at their original size. Such photos can be huge. If you have a modern phone and it takes photos at more than 16 megapixels then you can just reduce the file size to free up some space.
You will need to go to Settings and select Recover Storage. This will give you the option to shrink the images to 16MP if they are larger and enlarge them if they are smaller.
The main advantage of using the smaller size for photos is that Google gives you the option for infinite storage for such photos. If you have thousands of photos, this is a perfect solution to the problem.
