Avatar: The Way of Water will be released this December, but it has one serious problem: The movie came out 13 years ago and most people have already forgotten what happened in it. But James Cameron and his team have come up with a solution. They will re-release the first movie in theaters. According to the trailer released Tuesday, the 2009 film returns to theaters for two weeks beginning Sept. 23 and will be shown in “all formats”, including IMAX, 4K/HDR, and – of course – 3D.
Of course, people can still watch a movie at home to catch up before heading out to see a new movie. However, practically no one will have the equipment to watch the movie the way it was intended-with a pair of 3D glasses on their face.
In addition, Disney has removed Avatar from its Disney Plus streaming service. Variety report citing sources claims that it will return before the release date of part two. Currently, the film is still available to rent on other streaming services, such as Apple TV.
If Disney can get you to go to the theater to re-watch Avatar in this way, you can get the full experience of the movie again.
James Cameron is no stranger to a re-release in theaters. Titaniс has already been back in theaters and is going to do so again next year-though, of course, that’s not because it will have a sequel.
