Since 1988, December 1 has been World AIDS Day. All of this is timed to coincide with a terrible phenomenon, a disease that has killed, according to various estimates, 25 to 50 million people over nearly four decades. It is an epidemic.
The Apple company has been participating in (PRODUCT) RED since 2006. This campaign is carried out with the participation of world-famous brands. They include Apple, Nike, GAP, Electronics Arts, Coca-Cola, American Express, and many others.
So, here is everything you need to know about Apple’s (PRODUCT)RED.
How buying (PRODUCT) RED helps save lives
In 2006, U2 lead singer Bono and Robert “Bobby” Shriver of ONE Campaign/DATA founded the global charity campaign (PRODUCT) RED, or simply (RED). (RED) brings together individuals and entire companies to raise funds for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and other countries. To date, (RED) has already transferred over $500 million to the Global Fund.
(RED) sells (PRODUCT) RED branded products in red. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each product is donated to the Global Fund to Fight the spread of HIV and AIDS. 100% of the money raised is sent directly to the field, bypassing intermediaries. With this money, the Global Fund has already provided 110 million people with prevention, treatment, counseling, HIV testing, and care services.
What does red color mean in (PRODUCT) RED
The red ribbon has been a symbol of AIDS awareness since 1991, which is why red was chosen as the main color of the (PRODUCT) RED brand. Apple, in solidarity with the fight against HIV/AIDS, paints logos in its retail Apple Stores in red every year on the first of December.
Almost all iPods, except the Classic, came out in limited edition red, and in 2017 Apple began to paint iPhones red as well. The first smartphones were the Seven. One year later, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus came out. They stood out with a glass body, a rich red color, and a black front panel. It looks so bombastic that people bought it not because of charity, but because of the color.
Apple (PRODUCT) RED devices release chronology
Apple was one of the first companies to collaborate with (PRODUCT) RED. In October 2006, Apple released the red iPod nano. The device was priced at $199, and the company donated $10 from each (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano sold to the HIV/AIDS Foundation.
In September 2007, the company introduced the iPod shuffle (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition. It was followed in 2008 by the fourth generation iPod Nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition.
The (PRODUCT) RED was exclusive to the iPod lineup for a while, but the iPad Smart Cover (PRODUCT) RED was introduced in 2011, followed by the iPhone Bumper (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition in 2012.
In 2013, Apple released a special version of the Mac Pro (PRODUCT) RED. It was designed by John Ive and sold at a charity auction for $977,000.
In March 2017, Apple released the first iPhones (PRODUCT) RED. They were the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Apple further maintained this tradition with the release of new iPhones in red, all the way up to the iPhone 12. Only the premium Pro and iPhone X models did not receive bodies in red. The Apple Watch (PRODUCT) RED was introduced for the first time in 2020.
The interesting thing about every Apple (PRODUCT) RED device or product is that the company invents a new shade of red almost every time. So the iPhone SE 2 (2020) (PRODUCT) RED has a richer and deeper shade of red, the iPhone 12 (PRODUCT) RED has a caustic red body, the iPhone 11 (PRODUCT) RED has a more calm neutral red color. The back of each iPhone (PRODUCT) RED is engraved with the brand.
