How to find out the year of manufacture of a Samsung refrigerator

It’s actually very easy to find out the production date of your refrigerator. Samsung usually writes the assembly date of the refrigerator on the information label in a human-readable format, indicating the month and year of assembly. So all you need to do is find the sticker, which is located inside the refrigerator, and read the production date. Here is an example of a Samsung refrigerator sticker.

Of course, there are refrigerator models that do not have the manufacturing date clearly stated on the label. In such cases, you can determine the manufacturing date by using the refrigerator’s serial number. This method is also quite simple, but you need to know how to interpret the date symbols.

If you can’t find the manufacture date of the refrigerator on the sticker, you need to decipher the serial number to find the assembly date. For example, here is a sticker from a Samsung refrigerator manufactured for Australia and New Zealand without an assembly date.

For example, let’s decode the refrigerator’s serial number from the photo above. The serial number is W66143BH400494B. All refrigerator serial numbers have 15 characters; within this number, two characters encode the production date. The date is encoded in the 8th and 9th characters if you count from left to right or the 7th and 8th characters from right to left. Now, we need to interpret these symbols to determine the production date. This is relatively easy to do with a table that decodes the symbols. Note that some symbols are cyclic, repeating every 20 years, so the dates for 2001-2005 and 2021-2025 are identical. To correctly identify the year of manufacture, you may need to find additional information about the production years of a particular refrigerator model if you need clarification on whether it belongs to a new cycle.

Example:

Let’s determine the date from our example serial number, W66143BH400494B. The 8th and 9th characters are the assembly date symbols, ‘H4’. According to the table:

• ‘H’ corresponds to the year 2016.
• ‘4’ corresponds to April.

Therefore, this refrigerator was manufactured in April 2016.

Note that the month of production is encoded very simply: months are numbered from 1 to 9, and since the month is represented by a single character, the months of October, November, and December are identified by the letters A, B, and C, respectively.
