Samsung, in an editorial post, reported selling nearly 10 million foldable devices in 2021. More precisely (and this is important), they shipped them, that is, they sold them to retailers. Mobile Experience (MX) Business, Dr. TM Roh calls the figure of 10 million an increase of more than 300% and says that foldable devices are becoming common.
10 million devices are incidentally more than was reported by IDC, which estimated this figure at only 7.1 million smartphones. So far, it is not clear who was wrong, IDC or Samsung, but in any case, both figures look optimistic for the market of foldable devices. Although this market occupies less than 1% of the total, as Samsung says, the Fold devices were the main driver of switching to the company’s products.
In his post, Roh also said that the company would introduce the new Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Fold at the upcoming Unpacked event. So, no doubt Samsung will bet on foldable smartphones.
