In 2021, Intel managed to beat AMD and released 12th-generation Alder Lake Core processors, which were much more powerful than AMD’s chips. However, at the beginning of 2022 AMD announced that it would soon release a new series of its processors Rizen. Finally, the company has officially announced the upcoming release of the processors, named the date of sale and price, as well as other information.

AMD announced the Ryzen 7000 series. It is the next generation after the 5000 series, which was released in 2020. In addition, the company releases a new socket AM5, which will replace the AM4, he was relevant already from 2016.

The new processors will run on the LGA circuit, so the contacts are located on the motherboard socket, not on the processor. This increases the density of contact points, placing 1,718 contact points in the same area as AM4, where there were 1,331. The company has now said it will support these sockets until at least 2025. Perhaps the company is going to release another socket in that timeframe.

Another change is that the new Ryzen 7000 chips are based on the new Zen 4 architecture made on the 5nm process. This will increase the clock speed. The top-of-the-line Ryzen 9 7950X achieves 5.7 GHz – 800 MHz more than the Ryzen 9 5950X, and 200 MHz more than the Intel Core i9-12900KS. In addition, according to published data, the number of instructions per cycle (IPC) has improved by 13%. All this theoretically gives a 29% improvement in single-core performance.

In addition, the company claims that in some tasks these processors have improved performance by 45%. Also, it is worth to consider that Ryzen 5 will come with a TDP of 105W, while Ryzen 7 and 9 chips will have a TDP of 170W. This means you should probably upgrade your coolers before replacing the chips. Also, there is no DDR4 support in the new socket, only DDR5 standard. So you will also have to replace the memory in your PC.

In general, we can only wait for the release and the real reviews. New processors are going to be released on September 27th. The cheapest of them 6-core, 12-core Ryzen 5 7600X will be available for $300. The other models: the 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 7700X will cost $400, the 12-core, 24-thread Ryzen 9 7900X will cost $550, and the 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen 9 7950X will cost $700. Compared to the previous generation, prices haven’t risen much.
