Can you merge Amazon accounts and how to do this

At this time, Amazon doesn’t offer the ability to merge accounts. Instead, you can use a feature that allows you to share your Amazon Household account with multiple family members.

Why you cannot merge Amazon accounts

An Amazon account cannot be merged with another account because once created, it is permanently linked to the email address you provide. The only way to change this information is to delete the account and create it again. That’s why an account cannot be combined with another account that is linked to another contact information.

What can you do instead of merging accounts

As stated above, you cannot merge your account with anyone else. However, this doesn’t prevent you from sharing an account with someone close to you. To do this, you need to use Amazon Household:

  • With an Amazon Household plan, multiple people can take advantage of Amazon’s extensive offerings. You’ll be able to share with your family and friends the benefits of Prime shipping, videos, music and books, as well as the rest of the range of apps and features offered.
  • Amazon Household can be used by two adults with their own separate Amazon accounts at the same time. Multiple children can also be connected and can use the Amazon profile linked to the adult’s account. Children don’t have to have their own accounts.
  • The maximum number of people between whom an Amazon Household account can be shared is 10. This can include two adults, up to four teens and up to four younger children.

How to start using Amazon Household

If Amazon Household is right for you as a replacement for pooled accounts, you need to:

  1. Log in to your Amazon account on your PC.
  2. Go to “Accounts and Lists”. The icon you need is at the top of the screen.
  3. Once you’re there, find the box with the subject “Shopping and Rental Programs”.
  4. Below it will be the “Amazon Household” link. Click on it.
  5. Once you click the link, you will be on a page where you can start adding members who live in the same house as you to your Household plan. To do this, you will need to click on the corresponding plus (+) symbol in each category: Adults, Teens, and Children.
  6. Adults must have their own Amazon account to use this service. Teens and children may not have their own accounts and can be added as new profiles to an existing account.
If an underage Amazon Household user wants to make a purchase from the site, it must be approved by a text message sent to adult account holders.
