Google Assistant is an excellent artificial assistant at home. It allows you to perform certain tasks and give you certain information on the fly. Google Assistant is always prompted by voice commands like “Hey, Google” or “OK, Google. But sometimes you want to add some variety to this routine and in this article, you will learn if you can change the wake word on Google Home.

What is Google Assistant

Always dreamed of having servants like royalty? Still having your privacy, you can give out commands to your smart devices in the house via Google Assitant. This device recognizes your voice and performs all kinds of commands, from turning on and off other devices to giving you all kinds of information from the network.

For example, you can ask Google about the weather for tomorrow or ask it to turn off the lights on the ground floor, because you don’t want to go downstairs. Everything is at your fingertips and within the hearing range of your device. Very easy and convenient.

But how do you call Google Assistant? Quite simple and primitive “Okay, Google” and “Hey, Google”. But the fact is that such a simplified version quickly gets bored with some users and sometimes they go to support with the question of how to customize the form of appeal to their Assistant. Unfortunately, with all of its customization options, Google has yet to give us the option to change the wake word for Google as we’ll discuss further below.

How to use Google Assistant via smartphone

Google Assistant becomes an indispensable assistant at a time when you wash the dishes and need to make an urgent call or rush somewhere, and typing is simply inconvenient. At such moments, voice commands are very helpful. All you have to do is wake up the Assistant with the specific command “Okay, Google, call Jessica”. But first, you need to turn on such a function. To do this, follow the instructions:

  • Launch the Google Assistant app
  • Salect your profile icon in the top right corner of the screen
  • Tap on ‘Assistant’
  • Tap on your Google Home or any device you’d like to use
  • Tap on Access with Voice Match and Lock screen personal results from that menu

In case Google isn’t responding to your voice click Voice Model so you can retrain the service to understand your voice and correct most errors.

How to customize the wake word

Now, unfortunately, there is no way to change the wake word for Google Home. Google explains this by the fact that there is very little demand for such a feature. In the future, there are plans to add a feature to create a custom word. But for now, they believe that the current functionality is sufficient for the comfortable operation of the device.

This is the main reason why you will not be able to use this option for more fun and creative form of communication with Google Assistant. But there are a couple of others. One of them is the failure of command recognition, i.e. the device will activate at a time when you don’t need it. And the second reason is that if you call the device by the same name as your friend, there can be confusion when both are in your presence.

Now that is all information on Google Home wake word and how, unfortunately, you still cannot change it.
