In the age of the Internet and mobile smart devices, traditional video intercoms are losing their relevance. The Ring Doorbell is an intercom that connects the doorbell and the video peephole of the entrance door via Wi-Fi to your smartphone.

Now you don’t need to go to the peephole to find out who called. The application on your mobile device will show you everything that happens under your door. The app will manage to record video and send it to the cloud storage so that you will be able to watch it later. From there you can view the history of your visitors: who came when they came, which calls you missed, and which ones you answered. A motion-activated camera saves the faces of all your guests, and even those who didn’t make the call. Doubtful people will think twice before coming to your door.

The Ring Doorbell is user-friendly and you can easily connect the device to your WiFi network. So, here’s how to change the WiFi network on your Ring Doorbell.

How to connect the Ring Doorbell device to WiFi

Ring Doorbell’s first Wi-Fi experience won’t be about connecting to your home network. Once you start setting it up, it first goes into setup mode, prompting you to download the app to your smartphone or tablet to move on.

As soon as you download the app and set up your user profile, the app will connect to the nearest Ring Doorbell device. This works by creating its temporary Wi-Fi network when Ring Doorbell is in setup mode. This is used to connect the Ring app to the device, and once the setup is complete, it will connect to the Wi-Fi network.

After you have followed the instructions on your smartphone or tablet, you will connect to your home Wi-Fi network and configure the settings. Once this is done, your device will connect to the Wi-Fi network you choose.

How to force the setup mode on the Ring Doorbell

If you don’t enter setup mode, your Ring Doorbell won’t be able to connect to your home Wi-Fi network, which makes it useless. In some cases, you may need to force enter setup mode. If you want to do this, you have to remove the front panel from the device. After that, press the black button and release it. Turn on your device and check if it has entered setup mode.

If not, you will need to perform a hard reset. To do this, press and hold down the black button for 15 seconds (or longer if necessary). This will reset your Ring Doorbell and the device will enter setup mode.

How to change the WiFi network on the Ring Doorbell

Your Ring Doorbell may operate fine, but if your Wi-Fi network fails, you have changed your router or moved to a new house, you have to change the WiFi network on your Ring Doorbell device so it works properly. Unfortunately, it’s not very easy to do this because there are no built-in controls that allow you to do this from the device itself, you may have to use the Ring app.

If you want to try the simple way to change the WiFi network on your Ring Doorbell, you have to follow these steps:

  • First of all, open the Ring app and navigate to the cam.
  • Then, tap “Device Health”.
  • After that, tap “Change WiFi Network” and select the appropriate network from the list.

If you have to go another way, you can try to use an option called “Reconnect to WiFi”. Once you have selected this option, you’ll have to “Press the orange button”. That means unmounting the Ring Doorbell from the wall.

If you don’t feel like unscrewing everything to get to the orange button, there is a simpler solution. You can change the SSID name so that it exactly matches the name of the old router or faulty network. It may not be the most complicated solution, but at least it will get the job done.
