How to enable night mode on Snapchat

Snapchat is one of the most popular social networks. No wonder its developers are adding more and more features to it, including the ability to switch to an alternative color layout. Although there’s not much to choose from, you can turn on a dark or light theme.

You can do this directly from the settings within the application. In addition, you can set the automatic switching of the theme depending on the system theme of your iPhone. On the other hand, if you have an android smartphone, everything is not so simple. Let’s take a closer look at the problem, and I will explain what you can do to change the coloring.

How to turn on dark mode in Snapchat on iOS

If you have an iPhone or iPad, it’s easy to turn on the dark theme. You can do this right from the settings inside Snapchat itself. In addition, you can enable automatic theme change so that in the daytime, when you have a light theme on your smartphone, you will have the same theme in Snapchat, and in the evening, it will automatically change to a dark theme along with your iPhone’s theme. To do this, you need the following:

  • On the home page, click on your profile icon.
  • Select the gear in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Please scroll down to App Appearance and tap on it.
  • This is where you can choose from three options:
    • Match System.
    • Dark Theme.
    • Light Theme

You can change the theme at any time. If you don’t find this feature, try updating Snapchat. It will change the colors of the entire interface but will not affect the picture in the video. I recommend including a dark theme at night when your eyes are used to the darkness, and any bright colors might make you uncomfortable.

How to turn on dark mode in Snapchat on Android

In the case of Android smartphones, it’s not so simple. The fact is that in the Android version of Snapchat, the color theme change function is unavailable. At the moment, Android users can only use the standard light theme.

However, some smartphones offer you a “power change theme” function. This feature is available in smartphones like Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus. It’s usually found in the Developer Tools section, and it will allow you to change the color of your apps. However, it’s worth mentioning that it works a bit crookedly.

This feature inverts the interface colors and changes them to dark colors. This can get you into a situation where some interface elements don’t work the way you want them to. However, this is a feature from the “developer tools” section where all the experimental features are collected, and you can use them at your own risk.

When do dark themes come to Android devices?

So far, there has been no official announcement from Snapchat about a dark theme for Android devices. Since this feature appeared on iOS in 2019, it is unlikely that it is one of the burning issues.

However, in some regions, the dark theme is available as a Beta feature for android. This leaves hope that the company is still considering adding a dark theme to its app.

I can assume that Snapchat will add this feature when it starts to lose an audience. In that case, they will likely have to quickly develop many features that will make people stay with them. However, no one knows when that might happen.

Is it true that dark theme wastes battery longer?

There is an opinion that you would do well to keep the dark theme on your devices all the time. The dark theme is supposedly more economical and will keep your smartphone or tablet’s battery charged longer. However, is this true?

It is. All screens work with thousands of pixels that glow to create an image. Consequently, a pixel will use more energy to create a bright image than to display dark colors. So if your whole system is shown in dark colors, you can save some battery life.

From my own experience, though, I can tell you that the difference is not particularly noticeable. Maybe you can save an extra 10-15 minutes of battery life, but I don’t think there is much more to it.
