Sony’s PS4 is no longer a novelty and is already becoming a classic in the gaming console market. PlayStation really has become a cult device. A huge number of people bought and still buy the console not only because it’s a powerful and convenient device for gaming, but also because certain games (exclusives) you can play only on the PC. Fans buy an entire console just for those games. After all, gamers realize that they won’t be able to play this kind of game on the PC or another gaming platform.

Despite all the advantages of the PS4, sometimes you may encounter problems of various kinds. One of the most common problems that arise is a problem with the Internet connection. Of course, you won’t be able to play online games on your console if you don’t have a stable WiFi connection. And when this happens, it’s annoying.

However, you don’t have to despair. After all, all problems are solvable. Especially if it’s a problem with your WiFi connection.

Well, if your PS4 isn’t connecting to your WiFi network, here’s what you can do to fix it.

How to restart a WiFi router

The first and the easiest thing you can do to fix your problem with a WiFi connection is to restart your WiFi router. Your router should have an on/off button. If there’s no button, simply unplug the cord and then plug it back in. Try connecting to the router from other devices, phones, tablets. If you’re using a wired connection, try connecting directly via cable from a laptop or PC.

Maybe the router is just not configured or there are some malfunctions. If there’s no internet on all of these devices, but there was the internet before. It’s possible that it was just disconnected for non-payment, or the ISP’s line is having some problems. In any case, it’s worth calling your operator. Make sure that the router is within range of the radio waves. Keep in mind that mirrors and metal almost completely jam the signal.

If you’re connected by wire, make sure it’s plugged tightly into the port on both the Playstation 4 and your home router. Make sure the cable is plugged into the LAN port and not the WAN port. Also, make sure that the cable is intact. After that, try reconnecting to the router’s network again.

How to reboot PS4

If you find that your router settings are correct and other devices are connecting to your WiFi network, you can try rebooting your PS4. You can do it by following these steps:

  • Press and hold down the PS key on your contoller.
  • Then, select “Power” in the appearing menu.
  • Finally, choose “Turn Off PS4” or “Restart PS4”.

Make sure you don’t select “Enter Rest Mode”, which is a low-power state that doesn’t completely shut down the system. After everything restarts, try reconnecting the PS4 to Wi-Fi.

How to run a PS4 network test

If a simple reboot didn’t fix your PS4’s Wi-Fi problems, you can run the built-in network test to get more information about what the problem is. On your PlayStation 4, select “Settings”. Then, go to the “Network” section and select “Check your Internet connection”.

This will run a short test and display “Successful” or “Failed” for the following one:

  • Getting IP address.
    • Whether your system successfully gets an IP address from your router.
    • If it fails, your PS4 isn’t connecting to the router properly.
  • Connecting to the Internet.
    • This is successful if your PS4 can connect to the Internet.
    • If it fails, the problem lies between your router and the Internet.
  • Login to PlayStation Network.
    • Checks if your system can connect to the PlayStation Network.
    • If it fails, you may be on a network that is blocking the PlayStation Network.

If your system passes these three checks, it means that your PS4 is properly connected.

How to re-enter a WiFi password and change your DNS settings on PS4

If you’re using Wi-Fi, make sure you’re using the correct Wi-Fi password. You can also re-enter it on the PS4 to see if the connection is restored. Follow these steps to do so:

  • First of all, go to the “Settings” menu using your PS4 controller.
  • After that, select “Network”.
  • Choose “Set Up Internet Connection”.
  • Then, select “Use WiFi”.
  • Click “Easy” and choose your WiFi network from the list.
  • Finally, enter the password and wait for it to connect.

If you wish, you can also try changing your DNS settings to use a third-party provider instead of your ISP. To do this:

  • Select “Custom” instead of “Easy”.
  • Then, choose “Automatic” for the IP address settings.
  • Next, select “Do Not Specify” and click “Manual”.
  • Select your “Primary DNS” and “Secondary DNS”. If you aren’t sure, use primary DNS 8.8.8.8 and secondary DNS 8.8.4.4 for the Google public DNS servers.
  • After that, click “Next” and choose “Automatic”.
  • Finally, select “Do Not Use”.

Once you have completed these steps, you can test your WiFi connection. If it’s still not working, it would be the best solution to contact Sony’s PS4 technical support team.
