Samsung TV is one of the highest quality and premium devices on the market. Usually, there are not many problems with these TVs, but from time to time users may encounter issues such as a lack of sound.
I usually divide such problems into two categories: program errors or hardware problems. Depending on what kind of problem you have, you will have a slightly different algorithm for solving it. I would try all the fixes one by one until I find a working solution.
How to fix software sound problems on your Samsung TV
If you suspect that you have a system error with your Samsung TV, there are some universal solutions that can help you fix it. In this case, there is most likely an application conflict or a bug in an outdated operating system. In any case, you should check the following fixes:
Increase the sound
It often happens that users accidentally remove sound and then puzzle over how to get it all back. Try the mute and boost button for a start. These are the easiest and fastest steps to solving sound problems.
Perform a sound test
You can also do a sound test on your Samsung TV. You can do this right from the TV settings. To do this, you need to:
- In the TV settings, select Support.
- Here click on Self Diagnosis.
- Press Sound Test to start the test and wait for the test to complete.
- If the test finds sound problems you need to go to Settings and select Sound.
- Then select Expert Settings, and then select Reset Sound.
This will reset the sound settings to their defaults. This should solve the problem if it was caused by an incorrect setting. This will reset any sound changes you may have made manually.
Check the system update
Another problem could be your TV’s outdated operating system. This means that the sound is missing due to a common system error. Usually, the development company is quick to release patches that fix such bugs. To download it you need to:
- In the TV settings, select Support.
- Go to Software Update.
If the system detects an available update, it will be downloaded automatically. Of course, you should remember that Samsung TV must be connected to the Internet. Usually, an update doesn’t take more than 10 minutes.
How to fix hardware sound problems on your Samsung TV
You may also have problems with your devices. This can be either a Samsung TV problem or a problem with an external device. If the sound disappears when you connect an external device such as a set-top box, then it may be a problem with that device. I would recommend trying the following fixes:
Restart the TV and the device
The first thing you should do is unplug your TV. It should disconnect completely. Wait about 15-20 seconds and then you can try to reconnect it to the network. Do the same with your external device. This will close any open applications or processes and help clear up any errors if that is where the problem was.
Check the connection cable
Another problem that can cause audio loss could be a damaged HDMI cable. Check the cable for any damage or kinks. It is also a good idea to replace the cable with a different one if you suspect that it is the problem.
Try connecting to a different port
You may need to plug your video source into another jack and switch the signal source. If it was a broken jack then that should solve the problem.
Try connecting to a different TV
If you have another TV then you should try connecting to another TV to see what the problem is. It is possible that your device is broken and cannot produce sound.
Try different signal sources
I would also suggest switching between different apps and signal sources to see if there is no sound at all or if the problem is with only one option.
How to connect an external sound device to your Samsung TV
Also, if you are having sound problems due to the fact that your speakers do not work, then you can solve this by attaching an external sound device. For example a soundbar or Bluetooth speakers. In case you have wired devices, you can simply plug them into the correct port and it will automatically connect the device to your Samsung TV. If you have a Bluetooth device, you need to:
- Put your device in pairing mode.
- Then go to Samsung TV Settings and then Sound > Sound Output.
- Select the Bluetooth Speaker List option.
- This is where you need to find your device in the list and click on it to connect to the TV.
It will take a few seconds for the Bluetooth device to configure and connect to your Samsung Smart TV. Then the sound will automatically switch to your speaker or soundbar. You can turn on the desired application or device and test if it works.

How to Reset Samsung TV
If none of the above helped you, you can resort to the extreme method and perform a factory reset. This will reset your Samsung TV back to when you bought it and turned it on for the first time. To do this you will need to:
- Enter your TV’s Settings.
- Here select Support and then Self-diagnosis.
- From the list, you need to scroll to the Reset option and click on it.
- Enter the PIN code for your TV and wait a few minutes.
The TV may reboot several times during the reset process. NOTE that depending on the model of your Samsung TV Reset instructions may be slightly different. Also, you should remember that in this case, you will remove all non-standard applications which you have downloaded, as well as all your profiles and passwords you have entered on your TV, will be removed.
