How to leave a Discord server

Discord is a great app for making friends and spending time with people who have interests like yours.

However, you often have to join random servers, for example in order to play in a team. And after you have played, you may want to leave that server because you don’t plan to play with those people anymore.

Once you leave the Discord server, it won’t bother you in any way anymore. Firstly, you will no longer receive notifications. Secondly, the server will disappear from your list of servers, just like your name will disappear from the list of members of this server.

Also, you won’t be able to return back to the Discord server, exactly until you receive an invitation from a current server member.

Don’t forget that you can not leave the server Discord if you are the owner of the server. Before you can leave the server, you must transfer ownership to another server member.

How to leave Discord server as an owner

If you own a server but you no longer need it, you have two options as to how you can leave it.

The first is to simply delete the server. However, if other members are using it, that’s not a good thing to do, so try not to do that.

The second option is to transfer ownership and then simply leave the server (as in the diagram above). I recommend this option.

To transfer an ownership of the Discord server, you should do the following:

  • Open Discord
  • Choose the server on the left list
  • Right-click on a server you want to transfer ownership
  • Choose ‘Server settings’ – ‘Members’
