How to play iTunes on Xbox

While an impressive assortment of music services such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and Pandora is available on Microsoft’s Xbox consoles, Apple Music isn’t among them. Although gaming consoles are extremely popular, there is no Apple Music app for them. The only available way to listen to music with Apple is through a third-party app known as “AirServer”. This app can relatively easily allow you to use the Apple Music service in games. If you connect directly to AirPlay, you can safely stream Apple Music content directly to your Xbox from your iPhone or iPad.

How to install AirServer on Xbox

You don’t need any outstanding IT skills to set up the AirServer app on your Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices. In short, you install the app, and you’re ready to stream music from another device to your console. Please note that you may not need to buy the full version from the Microsoft Store right away. The thing is that it costs $20 and that’s not a small price to pay. You will want to try the trial version first. So you can decide if you like the service or not. Here is how to install it:

1. With your Xbox turned on, go to the Store tab.
2. Select the search box and enter “AirServer”.
3. Select “AirServer Xbox Edition” from the available options.
4. Next, it’s best to select the free trial version first. If you like it, you can purchase the full version later from the Microsoft Store.
5. After installing, click on “Launch” and open AirServer on your Xbox.
6. On the direction panel, click right.
7. To display the QR code on the screen, press A.

Next, switch to your iOS device to complete the setup process.

How to install AirServer Connect

To further set up AirPlay, you will need AirServer Connect. Although Apple integrated AirPlay into the iOS operating system, it’s still best to use the above app to troubleshoot initial detection issues. To install it, you need to:

1. On any of your Apple devices, open the App Store.
2. Select the search box once the store loads.
3. In the search box, type “AirServer Connect”.
4. Select “AirServer Connect” from the search results and navigate to its page in the store.
5. Click the “Install” button once you get there.
6. Once installed, open “AirServer Connect”.
7. Locate the “Scan QR Code” feature and select it.
8. If all seven items on the previous list are complete, scan the QR Code from the Xbox App. This way, you’ll discover your Xbox as an AirPlay device and pair them faster.

Once successfully paired, the Xbox will be able to receive video and audio from your iOS device. You don’t need any specific device from any particular manufacturer to play music. Any Xbox audio device will work.

How to start streaming music with AirPlay

By establishing a connection between your Xbox and your iOS device through the AirServer, you can start playing Apple Music tracks. Given the background audio, Xbox feature, you’ll be able to listen to music while you play. Here’s what you need to do to start streaming music from your Apple device to your Xbox:

1. On your iPad or iPhone, open the Music app.
2. Select the song you want to play.
3. At the bottom of the playback screen, click the AirPlay icon. It will be marked with an upward pointing arrow and three rings.
4. Given that your devices already connected to each other, there should be an Xbox One 1080p 30 option available. Select this and Apple Music will start streaming to your Xbox.

By connecting audio playback, you’ll be able to adjust the volume and track selection using your iOS device. Play, pause, skip, and volume levels can also be adjusted using the background audio controls on your Xbox in the Guide menu.
