A dark mode is gradually being added to almost any application. Twitch has had such a feature for a long time, although not everyone knows about it. And it is enabled literally in two clicks using the profile settings.

In addition, the dark mode is also available in the mobile app on your smartphone or tablet. I recommend that everyone try switching it and see what dark mode offers. As part of the Twitch service, it looks very appropriate and attractive.

How to enable or disable dark mode on the Twitch desktop

The dark mode will help you in the dark time of day so that the light colors do not hit your eyes, which are already used to the dark. In addition, the dark mode, in my opinion, is very suitable for gaming tweets and looks very good, especially in combination with the different colors of your profile. To turn it off, you will need the following:

  • In Twitch, on the home page (or any page), click on your profile silhouette (or person silhouette if you’re not logged in).
  • In the drop-down menu, you’ll see a switch to dark mode.

Note that you don’t need to be logged into your account to toggle the mode. Even if you are not logged in, the browser will remember your choice and display the desired color mode the next time you launch Twitch. Also, if your system and browser are set to dark mode by default, Twitch will automatically be displayed in dark mode.

How to enable or disable dark mode on Twitch mobile app

As I said above, the dark theme is also available in the mobile version of Twitch. Its activation is also done through the settings menu of your account. In this case, you’ll need a few more clicks (about three). To do this, you need to:

  • On any of the main Twitch pages, click on your profile icon in the upper left corner.
  • From the menu, select Appearance.
  • Here you will see the options “Match System Theme” and “Dark Theme” you need to select the second one.

Note that if you’ve set your smartphone to have a dark theme, you can simply turn on the option to match the Twitch theme on your smartphone. In that case, you won’t need to switch between the light and dark theme every time; the switch will be automatic when the color theme changes on your smartphone.

Why you may need to turn on dark mode on Twitch

After people hear about the dark mode, many ask why I need it. I would say that if you ask yourself that question, you probably don’t even need it. However, there are a few arguments that might change your mind.

First of all, the dark mode will make it easier to use the application at night. Your eyes can adapt to the amount of light around you. This means your eyes will have a more challenging time adjusting to bright light at night. Dark mode can solve this problem.

If you are in a dark room at night with other people, the dark mode can help you to be less “distracted. It will create less bright light, and your smartphone or computer will not disturb your loved ones sleeping in the same room as you.

The strongest argument, in my opinion, is the design. I think Twitch should have a dark design by default. The app uses purple and pink, which goes very well with dark mode’s dark colors.
