If you’ve been thinking about updating your living room for a long time, maybe now is the time. Besides, the pre-holiday days are coming soon, and you should already start looking at new purchases. For example, you can upgrade your TV and replace it with an Insignia 50-inch Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV.

It’s an inexpensive but relatively high-quality Smart TV that will please you with its picture and many features. Of course, because of its small price, you will have to make some compromises, but I would recommend taking a closer look at it before making a decision.

Short Review

I would say that this TV is a good value for the money. Of course, it will not offer any advanced features and will not surprise you with the quality of the picture, but for its price and in comparison to competitors, it is a solid player.

In my opinion, its main advantage is the built-in Fire TV. The operating system from Amazon is quite functional and offers users everything the modern TV viewer needs. It also has screen mirroring functions from Android and iPhone. In addition, the TV has several different ports for connecting other devices and good sound for this price. You can find short specifications in the table below.

What about picture quality?

This TV has some picture quality issues out of the box. When you take out your new Insignia 50-inch Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV and plug it in, you risk not being happy with the picture. It often goes into the red, and the automatic noise reduction and motion processing make dynamic action scenes very blurry.

However, the situation is much better if you do a little digging in the settings and turn off saturation and noise reduction. I would advise you to start immediately with the settings menu and set the color, so it doesn’t interfere or distract you. You can get pretty good results in just a few minutes.

Another bad news for gamers is that the lag is relatively high. Sometimes it exceeds 30 ms. Also, the TV has only 60Hz, which does not match modern consoles. So if you are an avid gamer, this TV is not exactly what you need.

What about sound?

But in terms of sound, the Insignia can surprise you very nicely. Although the TV only has Dolby Audio, the Dolby Atmos sound here is much better than in many two-channel TVs. Although sometimes, the quiet dialogues can get a little lost in the background of the surround sound.

There are also many sound settings that you can use to customize the sound to your liking. In my case, I’m satisfied with the standard sound modes. There are 5 Standard, Music, Movie, Clear Voice, and Enhanced Bass.

There is also the Custom mode, where you can adjust the depth of sound yourself. The standard mode will be enabled by default, but you can always change it from the settings menu using the Sound tab.

However, despite the impressive sound out of the box, I would still advise thinking about buying a home theater or at least a soundbar since it’s still just regular two-channel sound on your TV.

What about available ports?

This TV has two port compartments. One is on the bottom of the TV, and the other is on the side. In short, you will not find anything interesting here; the TV has a standard set of ports.

There are 3 HDMI ports and one USB port on the side. This is a convenient port layout where you can connect any compatible devices as you don’t have to get under the TV to connect the Blu-ray player, for example.

The second set of ports is in a slightly obscure place. It is located on the back panel at the bottom. You can still access these slots even if your TV is hanging on the wall, but you will need to do a lot of twists and turns here. The ports include Ethernet, Digital Optical Output, AV IN, and Antenna connectors.

What about Operating System?

As I described above, the Insignia TV has Amazon’s Fire TV operating system on board. It is one of the most popular operating systems for TVs and a reason. It offers quite a wide range of functionality.

With Fire TV, you can get fast access to any popular streaming service. You can also download various applications and go online with a Web browser. In addition, Fire TV supports functions such as AirPlay and Chromecast. This means that you can connect your smartphone or tablet to your TV.

The Insignia 50-inch Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV remote is also in the style of the Fire TV remote. The only difference will be the Insignia logo. It has features such as voice control and quick recall of some streaming (their list may vary depending on the TV production region )

What about the price?

Insignia is a manufacturer of Budget TVs. So the Insignia Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV in its 50-inch size will cost you just $399 on Amazon. You can also choose other sizes for your TV:

  • 43-inch will cost $299.99
  • 55-inch will cost $449.99
  • 58-inch will cost $329.99
  • 65-inch will cost $569.99
  • 75-inch will cost $849.99

All of these TVs differ only in size. They have the exact specifications as the 50-inch version. You should base your choice of TV size on the size of the room you are going to put it in. If your room is not too big and you do not plan to invite many guests to watch TV together, 50 inches is more than enough.
