Intel announced that their rather old Pentium and Celeron processor lines will soon disappear from the market. Previously the Pentium was even Intel’s flagship processor model, but times are changing and now the company has decided to focus on other product lines.

It’s not really surprising, since the first Pentium has already been on the market for 29 years. And Celeron has been on the market for over 24 years. For almost 3 decades the processors have been around and last year they were used in entry-level PCs.

So far Intel has announced that they will stop releasing Intel Pentium and Intel Celeron for laptops in 2023. However, they will still be selling out the products that are already on the shelves. These processor lines will be replaced with just Intel Processors.

Intel commented that they want to simplify Intel’s processor lineup to make it easier for users to “focus on choosing the right processor for their needs. So now the Core, Evo, and vPro processor lines will remain, but no new Celeron, Pentium Silver, or Pentium Gold based laptops will be released.

It is unclear how this will affect entry-level desktop processors. Most likely soon they will also rebrand and stop releasing Celerons and Pentium. At the moment, the company produces Pentium Gold and Celeron chips, based on the same Alder Lake architecture as the 12th generation Intel Core chips.
