It’s a bit of a strange question, isn’t it? A well-known luxury automaker, a long-time competitor of the “Big Three”, although not with the same market share. Nevertheless, this beast has several dark spots in its biography, which we want to clarify.
We want to briefly remind you of the brand’s history. And also to publish a complete list of each production facility where Jaguar builds its famous cars. According to company policy, Jaguar operates several factories where cars for a specific market are assembled. Therefore, some are located in the UK, others are in China and in Brazil.
The brief history of Jaguar
The company we know today as Jaguar began as a business founded by two English motorcycle enthusiasts. They both bore the name William – William Lyons and William Walmsley. In 1922, a sign appeared in the town of Blackpool that read: Swallow Sidecar Company. This was where sidecars were manufactured.
Twelve years later Walmsley went out of business, prompting Lyons to look for an investor. Eventually, a new name was born – S. S. Cars Limited. The first model appeared in 1935: the Jaguar 100. After World War II, it was decided to abandon the unsound combination S.S. And the company became known as Jaguar. Sir William Lyons said that this name sounds more British.
Jaguar has always stood out from the crowd. It became a symbol of automotive aristocracy, refined taste, exquisite quality, and technical goodness. We can say that Jaguar is the embodiment of the Great Britain car.
Today the brand belongs to the company Jaguar Land Rover, which is a subsidiary of “Indian automobile giant Tata Motors. Its headquarters is located in English Coventry.
