Are GroupMe polls anonymous: Everything you should know

There are dozens of chatting apps today, so this market is oversaturated. GroupMe is just another player in this market that focuses exclusively on group chats between friends.

The app was launched in 2010 and now has about 29 million monthly active users worldwide.

In addition to chatting properly, you can also create polls (this feature was added in 2017). So now you can organize or take part in a poll on any topic.

For example, if you need to make an urgent decision, this feature will be very useful. However, we don’t always want our answers open to others. GroupMe is good in this respect because all polls will be anonymous and neither group members nor the poll’s creator will be able to find out who voted for which option.

This approach eliminates pressure on group members, so it’s really good.

Are GroupMe polls really anonymous?

Any chat member can create a poll and each member can take the poll and answer the question you ask.

This way, you can find out the opinions of group members right away and avoid lengthy discussions and debates.

And yes, all polls are anonymous, neither group members nor the poll creator can know who voted for which option. Of course, this approach is not always good, but in most cases, it will help avoid further dissent, and all group members will be able to answer the question honestly without fear of pressure from other members.

How you can set up a GroupMe poll?

If you want to create a poll, you first need to add a question (the limit is 160 characters per question, so it’s best to keep the question short).

After that, you must enter your answer choices. The minimum number of answers is two, and the maximum number of answers is 10.

I think this is enough to cover almost any question. However, if the question is complex, you can break it up into several sub-questions.

Also, when you create a question – then keep in mind that the answers should be as unambiguous as possible, and their number should be relevant to the number of participants in the group. After all, if you have 10 group members and 10 answer choices, chances are that everyone will vote for different answers and the survey will fail.

Once you’ve added answer choices, you can also add a time limit after which you can’t answer questions. This is a cool trick if you need a quick result and don’t need every member of the group to vote.

Also, keep in mind that the limit on the number of simultaneous polls is 50 polls. That’s a huge number and if you’re not spamming surveys, that’s probably enough.

Can you delete closed GroupMe polls?

No, even closed polls in GroupMe cannot be deleted, so they will be permanently saved in your chat history.

However, each group member can hide the poll screen and return to it if needed.

Although this solution seems odd (for example, if you accidentally did in a poll), this is how GroupMe polls work.
