Several days ago the Internet audience started to talk about the news that Meta is shutting down their best product for couples, which has been used by thousands of people last 2 years. Dating platforms are very convenient nowadays, as you can find your soulmate distantly, especially in the years of pandemics.

Tuned and other similar platforms have helped thousands of people to stay in touch with their partners and soulmates. That’s why, when those services are closed, it leads to the disappointment of many users, especially, if the platform has been very full-featured and popular.

What’s Meta Tuned app

Tuned is an app that has been developed by Meta in the years of the Coronavirus pandemic to let couples be in touch even when they’re apart. According to The Verge, the Tuned app which was launched in 2020, was created by Meta’s New Product Experimentation (NPE) team, which produces experimental apps and services. The platform gave couples an opportunity to chat, share photos and music as well as have a timeline of shared memories.

However, why this app has become so popular? Because it had one secret great feature. The couples had an opportunity to privately share their thoughts and moods as well as send notes to one another. Moreover, you could also find some games for couples in the app which could give you an opportunity to know each other better. In addition to this, the app had some bonds with the Spotify app and users could exchange songs with each other.

What is the NPE Meta team

New Product Experimentation (NPE) is a team that’s based inside the Facebook platform. The purpose of this team is to create new social media based on scratches. Even though the idea sounds good and the team has many projects created, however, most of them have been shut down after some period of time. So, below, you can see the list of the most popular projects of the NPE team:

  • Super. This was an app that was used to communicate with celebrities.
  • Hotline. This was a social audio app from the Clubhouse.
  • Forecast. This was an app that was used to promote crowd-sourced predictions.
  • Venue. This was a live sports engagement app.
  • CatchUp. This app was used to organize phone calls between friends who communicate in chat.
  • Collab. This app helped users to create music collaborations via short video clips.
  • Kit. This app uses to give users an opportunity to experience expanded messaging options on Apple Watch.
  • Hobbi. This app was used to save photos of creative hobbies and apply them to boards.
  • Whale. With this app, users could create some memes.
  • AUX. This was a participatory DJ app.
  • Bump. This was a chat app.

Even though all those projects have been closed during those 2 years, the NPE team is efficiently working on new projects that may interest their audience and simplify their lives. So, if they would announce a new app, you should definitely try it out.

Why Meta is shutting down the Tuned app

“We are so grateful for all of the creativity and feedback from this community and thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” Meta has published a post on their page this week. “We’ve learned so much from you. We hope this helped strengthen your relationships as much as it has for us with our own partners. Now it’s time to take the digital lessons we’ve learned and continue them IRL in our own ways.”

Even though Meta has started to announce Tuned users about shutting down the app on September 19 which was the last day when users could save their data before the app would be shut down, there are no more details about the cutting off on the App and Google Play Stores displayed. However, I believe that the idea of the app is very good and someone would definitely try to create a social media similar or even better to Tuned.
