Samsung TV has many different features such as Blur Reduction, Judder Reduction, and LED Clear Motion which improves picture quality and smoothness. Most of these features aren’t used by ordinary users, however, some of them can be useful.

For example, the LED Clear Motion feature allows you to use LED backlighting to sharpen the image. This feature is especially noticeable when watching sports events, where athletes move very quickly.

This feature has no additional settings and can only be turned on or off.

Most people are interested in how this feature affects the quality of the picture on their TV and about this further.

How LED Clear Motion Works

There are many different settings on modern TVs, most of them don’t affect the picture quality very much and are added to the device only for marketing purposes.

So most of the settings, usually duplicate each other. If we talk about the function of LED Clear Motion, it’s realized through the backlight and its mode of operation.

To explain how this function works, you need to understand why moving objects are blurred. Blurring occurs in LCD technology, and it takes time for the pixel to fully turn off.

When watching movies it may not be so noticeable, but when watching a race or boxing, you will notice that sometimes the picture stays in the same place where the object shouldn’t be anymore. In modern TVs, try to reduce this delay to a minimum, and LED Clear Motion is designed to do just that.

How is LED Clear Motion implemented?

This function simply uses a black frame that is created when the backlight is turned off. At the moment when the pixels remove the image and for 2-3 milliseconds the backlight is turned off, thus speeding up the process of changing the frame.

In simple terms, your TV turns off the backlight for a couple of milliseconds, thus speeding up the disappearance of the image from the desired pixel.

How to enable LED Clear Motion on your TV

On different Samsung TVs, the process of enabling this function may differ slightly, but the basic concept is the same. To turn on the function on your LED Clear Motion you need to:

  1. Go to “Settings” by pressing the {gear wheel} on your remote control.
  2. Then go to the {image}, then to advanced settings and “Auto Motion Plus” settings.
  3. If you have {Auto} by default, this means that the function is turned on depending on the type of show you are watching.
  4. In the “Auto Motion Plus” settings, you can enable or disable LED Clear Motion
  5. After turning on this feature, the brightness of your TV will drop by 10 percent of your value, so after turning on this setting, remember to increase the overall brightness of your TV

Should you turn on the LED Clear Motion function or not

It’s up to you to decide how much you need this feature. You can turn on a sporting event, turn the LED Clear Motion on and off several times to test the effectiveness of this feature, and decide for yourself whether you need to turn it on or not.

Usually, it depends on the class of your TV, especially on its response time. If the response time is very low, then there isn’t much point in the LED Clear Motion function.
