What is Samsung TV error code 012 and how to fix it

One of the most popular and large manufacturers of Smart TV is Samsung. They have many different models for all needs and tastes. Even though their TVs are made of very high quality and there are rarely any serious problems with them. Nevertheless, sometimes critical errors occur in the operation of these televisions, one of the most common errors is ERROR 012

What is Samsung TV error code 012

This error occurs when the user wants to run, install or update an application on the TV. Due to problems with the Internet connection, the TV can’t connect to the Smart Hub and Apps panel becomes inoperable. If you have such a problem you can resort to some simple fixes, which can help to solve this error:

  • Restart your TV and router by unplugging them for 10-15 minutes
  • Make sure your Internet connection is stable and everything works on your other devices
  • Try to use a different hotspot (like sharing internet from your phone with a mobile network)
  • Check the network settings and change them following the instructions that came with the TV
  • Place the router closer to the TV set so there are no obstacles between them to block the signal

Why does ERROR 012 appear

If the previous steps don’t help in solving the problem you need to understand why this error might occur. Causes for this error may include the following:

Failure of a certain app

Check the other applications, if all of them work and the error occurs in only one of them, it may be the problem. You can reinstall the application, that should help:

  • Select the application in the Apps section
  • Press and hold the “Tools” button until you see the menu
  • Click on “Reinstall

DNS problems

Also, such error may be caused by problems with DNS, to fix it you need to change the DNS address of your TV, to do this:

  • Open “Settings
  • Open “Network
  • Select “IP settings” in the “Network status” section
  • Enter “DNS settings
  • Enter Google DNS address in the box “8.8.4.4” or “8.8.8.8
  • Accept the changes by pressing “Done” – “Back” – “OK
  • Restart the device and check if the error still occurs

Smart Hub failures

There can also be some problems with Smart Hub functioning, most often they are caused by bugs or wrong settings. First of all, you need to make sure the TV has been certified for use in your country, otherwise, its functions can be limited or blocked. If your TV is certified in your country, you need to make sure:

  • Go to the “Support” section in Settings
  • Select “Self-diagnostics” option and find there “Smart Hub reset”
  • Enter four zeros in the PIN field
  • Wait until the process finishes and open Apps pane
  • Accept the settings
  • Reinstall the required apps
  • After this, 012 error should disappear from your Samsung TV

Wrong TV settings

If none of the above helped you can reset your TV to factory settings to avoid this error again. There are different instructions for different Samsung TV models to reset your TV. Another thing about the EEPROM is the so-called deep reset. To do it you need to :

  • Press and hold the power button on the body
  • Wait for the device to restart
  • Press the same button on the remote control for 10 seconds
  • Don’t release it until the TV restarts

That will delete all the data on your TV, if that is the cause of the problem, then the 012 error will disappear.

Poor baseband

Another reason for this error could be a poor baseband. The device should update it by itself. To check this, go to “Menu” – “Support” – “Software update” – “Online”.If the TV can’t find the file you need or can’t connect to Samsung’s servers, do the following:

  • Download the latest baseband required for your TV model
  • Download them on a USB flash drive
  • Insert it into your Samsung TV
  • Go to “Menu” – “Support” – “Software update
  • Press “USB update
  • Wait till the process will be finished and your Smart TV will automatically reboot
