If you’re tired of unstable and slow WiFi in certain parts of your home or office, installing a mesh network can help you solve the problem. The advantage of mesh networks over regular routers is that they distribute the load much better. You will still have a central router, but it will be connected to a number of others that spread the Internet signal much more evenly throughout your home or office, avoiding the far bedrooms where the signal does not reach well. Many modern mesh networks work seamlessly with existing WiFi, so there is no need to make any significant and drastic changes. It’s no secret that Eero is a leader in the mesh market, consistently producing both the cheapest and the best devices. But Google’s Nest Wifi is also noteworthy.

Eero and Google Nest are popular brands of mesh WiFi systems. Eero is owned by global giant Amazon, and Google Nest is part of Google. Here is about which router is better – Amazon Eero or Google Nest WiFi.

Key differences in router features

Security and privacy

First of all, it is important to notice that security and privacy are important aspects of modern routers. Google Nest WiFi and Eero come with support for two band frequencies, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. That said, the Google Nest comes with built-in WPA3 security, while the Eero Mesh Wifi only provides WPA2 security. While this probably doesn’t play a big role for potential users, it’s still worth knowing.

RAM and storage

The difference between the two becomes much more noticeable when comparing the internal hardware. The Google Nest Mesh WiFi comes with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. By comparison, the Eero comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage on board.

Coverage range and management

Although the Eero network is not the fastest or cheapest, it offers a compelling combination of these two characteristics from a company you can trust. One Eero unit covers up to 140 square meters, and three units cover up to 460 square meters. You should know that setting up Eero is very easy with the iOS and Android apps. It takes minutes, and you can perform maintenance and troubleshooting using the same apps.

From Google’s perspective, Nest Wifi covers up to 120 square meters as a standalone device and up to 300 square meters with the main router and two extenders known as points. The app is definitely great, and each device is equipped with Google Assistant and a speaker to play music, make calls, search for answers through Google, and so on.

Differences in design and use

Amazon Eero and Google Nest Wifi perform roughly the same functions. Nevertheless, they have completely different designs. The design of the Amazon Eero looks really minimalistic and attractive. It blends easily into the background of any room. Of course, many potential users would like to buy a device in their favorite color. But unfortunately only white is available. However, it can also harmonize perfectly in your home or office.

Google Nest Wifi got a more prominent design that resembles smart speakers. This makes sense since you can use the Nest WiFi and its additional points as speakers with Google Assistant built-in.

Overall, the Eero is noticeably smaller than the Nest Wifi, and if that’s important to you, you should choose the device from Amazon. But if you have a little more space, the larger Nest Wifi will also be attractive, and the built-in speakers will be useful.
