Japanese company Aromajoin at the CES 2023 exhibition, presented a device for scenting movies, video games, and anime, Aroma Shooter, and the AromaPlayer program for creating a playlist of smells. With the small scent gadget, players can smell the subway of Half-Life in real-time, the frosty morning in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, or the wet ground in Resident Evil 4. Aroma Shooter can switch between scents in 0.1 seconds and quickly mix different scents without discomfort or consequences for the user.
The Aroma Shooter uses solid-state cartridges rather than containers of liquid or aerosols. The developers promise to generate up to 100 different scents, from ocean breezes, cherry blossoms, grapes, and peaches to coffee. Still, the device is limited to 6 cartridges and variations of their scents. The unit draws in the outside air as it works, passing through the cartridge units to create the desired scent.
Using the AromaPlayer program, the Aroma Shooter can digitize content scents and create a scent playlist for a video, such as from YouTube. Then you can insert the desired cartridges into the Aroma Shooter and watch the scent video.
The basic desktop version of the device with six cartridges costs $998. You can purchase new cartridges with additional scents for $54 each.
