Discord once managed to supplant the good old Internet forums, but now it wants to bring them back to its platform. The company has announced the release of Forum Channels, which are exactly how you see them. It will be a special place where you can have conversations and not be distracted by the fast running of constant chat feeds.
The forums will be located directly below your regular Discord channels on the server. When you create one, you will be able to restrict posting rights and set rules for the conversation. Very importantly, they are also compatible with Discord’s AutoMod feature, which can help clean up discussions.
The concept of forums is coming back, but it’s fun to see how Discord explains it to young users. The app is often seen as a return to IRC blitzes combined with real-time voice chat. So it makes sense that it would be responsible for reviving the forums.
