Two new monitors from Dell are coming out this fall under the Alienware brand. Unfortunately, they’re not equipped with QD-OLED panels, like the AW3423DW model. The 27-inch AW2723DF will feature an LG Nano IPS panel with 2560 x 1440 resolution, a native 240Hz refresh rate, and a claimed gray-to-gray response time of 1ms.
Factory overclocking allows you to boost the refresh rate to 280Hz for games like Valorant and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The monitor features AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync support for more immersive games. The monitor doesn’t have a local dimming feature, but despite that, HDR performance was good enough that the AW2723DF earned the VESA DisplayHDR 600 badge.
Alienware calls the AW2723DF the ideal monitor for content gamers. The AW2723DF’s screen covers 95 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut. A switch in the monitor’s OSD allows you to switch to sRGB.
Like most Dell monitors, the AW2723DF won’t leave you indifferent to the ports. In addition to the usual DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 connectors, the monitor has several USB 3.2 Gen 1 inputs, a headphone jack, and audio output. However, the HDMI 2.1 connector for console games was left out.
New to the Alienware design is a retractable headset stand. The stand has a swivel, rotate, tilt, and height adjustment features. You can also mount the AW2723DF according to VESA if you want to use it with a monitor bracket.
For those who love competitive gaming, there’s the AW2523HF model. It features a 25-inch LG IPS panel with Full HD resolution, a 360 Hz refresh rate, and a gray-to-gray response time of up to 0.5 ms. The screen covers 99 percent of the sRGB color gamut and is FreeSync Premium Pro certified.
The AW2523HF also features a retractable gaming headset holder and comes with a hexagonal stand instead of the V-shaped one used in most Alienware monitors. Dell claims that this design reduces the size of the AW2523HF monitor.
Of the two monitors, the AW2523HF will appear first. It will go on sale on Sept. 7 for $450. The AW2723DF will cost $650 and will hit store shelves on Oct. 6.
