Is there a possibility to use Discord on PS4
As mentioned before, Discord is now officially unavailable for PlayStation 4 and other consoles. But Discord users have often stated their wishes and requests that the developers make the application available for console players as well. It should be noted that the company stays in touch with the users and listens to their comments, so there is a good chance to see Discord on consoles in the near future.
But that doesn’t mean you have to wait for a certain date and play solo until the release. There is a way out of this situation, and although it may seem a bit clumsy, it’s still worth a try.
In order to use Discord with all of its features on the Playstation 4, you need to have special equipment. The most convenient device is a headset that has an optical cable and supports USB connection. You will also need MixAmp or alike device to switch audio between your PC and PS4. For instance, you can use the A40 TR headset with the MixAmp PRO TR. These devices proven to be a good combination for this type of setups.
Apart from the two items and the cables that go with them (3.5mm Male to Male, 3.5mm Aux Splitter, 3.5mm to 3.5mm with Volume), you also should install Discord app on your PC.
How to connect Mixamp to PS4
When you have all the necessary equipment and auxiliary devices, it’s time to move on to using them. Start by connecting your PS4 console with your MixAmp. Follow these steps:
- Turn on the PS4 and plug one side of the cable into the console and connect the other to the MixAmp
- Also check that your MixAmp is set to Console mode. If everything is done correctly, the console will recognize the headset as a USB device
How to set up MixAmp and PS4
After you’ve connected everything, you should go for Setting on your PS4 and follow the instructions below:
- Go to settings, scroll down and click on the Sound and Screen option
- Select Audio Output Settings
- Then go to the Primary Output Port and change it to Optical. It’s recommended to choose the Dolby 5.1 channel
- Go back to the Audio Output Settings menu, select Audio Format and choose Bitstream (Dolby)
- After that go back to the Settings and select Devices. Then open Audio Devices and make sure that the Output to Headphones is set to Chat Audio
How to set up on PC
Now all that’s left is to connect everything to the PC. Follow these steps:
- Take another USB cable and connect it to the MixAmp
- Open the Discord app on your computer and go to Settings gear icon
- Select the Voice & Video option
- Click on the Input Device section and choose the headset that you’re using
- Click Done to finish
Now you are able to chat through Discord and use your PlayStation 4 audio at the same time. Although note that to use text chats fully you may still need a keyboard as there in no Enter button on the virtual keyboard.
