New PS5 became lighter

Sony often does what they call invisible revisions. This means that they slightly change something in their devices and they become better or cheaper in value. For example not so long ago there was another revision of PS5 where Sony made the cooling system lighter than the original revision. Now the same thing has happened.

Some users began to note that their newly purchased consoles became lighter than the claimed specs. So Press Start, an Australian gaming site, reports that both the disc and digital versions of the PS5 have become much lighter. This is exactly what happened in the new shipment of consoles in Australia.

The disc model, numbered (CFI-1202A), weighs 8.6 pounds (3.9 kg), almost 0.8 pounds less than the last revision. The floppy diskless version also weighs 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg), down from 8.6 pounds in the previous revision. Interestingly enough, the disk-based version now weighs the same as the first digital revision of the PS5.

There’s really no information on why the consoles got lighter. There has been no official statement from Sony. Most likely soon ordinary users themselves will find the reason for this difference. Recall that the last time Sony changed the cooling radiator and was able to reduce the weight of the device by 300 grams.

It is noteworthy that the lightweight device appeared just when Sony announced a price increase for their consoles. Perhaps this is related to this and the company has changed something in the design of the console to make its production cheaper.
