The news that Hugh Jackman is returning to his iconic role in Deadpool 3 naturally blew up the internet. Much of the community attributed the credit to Ryan Reynolds, who has been touting the actor for his soliloquies for years. But by Reynolds’ admission, it’s far from that, and he didn’t have to talk anyone into it – Jackman asked for it himself.
“I think you attribute too much to me. I’m not responsible for Hugh coming back. I always wanted Hugh to come back, and I’ve been talking about it for years. I wanted to do a Deadpool and Wolverine movie together for a long time, but it wasn’t possible then. And then Hugh just called at that perfect moment and said he’d like to come back for one more movie. Hugh will retell the contents of that conversation himself if he wants to. Anyway, he expressed an interest in coming back, and after that, my job was to sell the idea again to Kevin Feige,” said Ryan Reynolds.
Filming of Deadpool 3 will begin in the summer of 2023, and the film is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2024. The R rating remains unchanged.
