Square released its Tap to Pay solution for the iPhone after an early access program. This means that merchants across the U.S. can now use the company’s “Point of Sale” app to accept payments from customers using only their iPhones, no matter where they are.

Of course, they need a newer iPhone to do this. The oldest model on which this feature can work is the iPhone 11. Nevertheless, they don’t need additional hardware to access this feature.

A merchant only needs to register a sale in the Square app and then ask the customer to pay using contactless credit and debit cards or Apple Pay and other digital wallets. The company hopes this solution can provide even small merchants with an easy way to conduct personal business. In its announcement, the company also touched on a potential security issue and said Apple doesn’t store card numbers on merchants’ devices or on its servers.

Square first revealed that it would support Apple’s Tap to Pay feature on iPhones, which the tech giant tested at its visitor center in May, back in June. At that time, it also opened an early-access program to give select merchants and retailers a chance to try it out. One participant said it allowed their business to serve better younger customers who prefer to pay with digital wallets and contactless cards.
