Twitter videos will now look more like TikTok. The company announced a move to a full-screen “immersive” video player for watching clips. It will also borrow the now-familiar “swipe up” gesture, allowing people to scroll through more videos on the platform endlessly.
Twitter’s updated video design has become like watching TikTok or Instagram’s Reels. For now, the changes apply only to Twitter’s iOS app, but the company has said that a similar Android update could come soon.
Twitter has long promoted videos in various parts of its app, especially live videos. However, this change is one of the company’s most aggressive moves to promote videos to its users. It could also prove controversial, as some users may find the new full-screen videos off-putting. According to the company, users can return to the original tweet using the back arrow in the upper left corner of the video.
In addition, Twitter also plans to attract more people to video content on its platform. For this reason, the company is testing some changes and experimenting with a new section for video recommendations on the Twitter Explore page. These recommendations will be “available to people in select countries using Twitter in English on iOS and Android.”
