Although WhatsApp often works fine, some users may encounter unexpected problems. Sometimes the problem can leave you stumped. This can happen if WhatsApp shows that your number is invalid.

There may be several reasons your phone number isn’t working properly on WhatsApp. In most cases, this means that the specified number doesn’t match the selected country. It could also be because your number is no longer active or has been blocked by WhatsApp. If you recently changed your number, it may take some time for the messenger to update. There are also other reasons, let’s look at them in more detail.

What are the reasons the phone number is invalid for the country on WhatsApp?

There are several reasons why your number may be called invalid. The first and most obvious reason may be that you entered the wrong number. In that case, it is easy to correct. Just check your number again, and if there are errors in it, correct them and save the changes.

As mentioned above, it could also be an inactive number or a number that does not match the selected country. In addition, the problem of invalid numbers in WhatsApp can be because the battery of your phone is low and it can’t handle the number correctly.

If you’re sure that the number you’re trying to call is correct, but WhatsApp says it’s invalid, there may be something wrong with your phone’s SIM card.

Fortunately, you can try to fix most of these problems.

How to fix your phone number invalid on WhatsApp

First of all, you should know that the specified phone number must be active in order to get the OTP (one-time password) in the future. Also, remember that landline and VoIP numbers are not accepted by WhatsApp.

Usually, a dialog box will pop up with a notification under these circumstances. The warning will indicate that the number provided is invalid for the selected country. Tap “OK”, go back to the previous screen, and do the following:

  • Select your country from the drop-down list that WhatsApp provided.
  • The code for the selected country will fill in automatically.
  • Finally, enter your phone number without errors.

Once you have completed these steps, wait for the response. If the information is entered correctly, you should receive an SMS with a one-time password, which you will need to enter in WhatsApp. If an error is made again, the previous dialog box will appear again.

You can double-check the information again. But given the fact that all the information you entered is accurate, the problem may be something else. You can write to the WhatsApp support service. In this case, specify your phone number in the international format and briefly describe the problem.

Is it possible to use Whatsapp without a phone number?

Although you need to use a phone number to sign up for WhatsApp, it doesn’t have to be your personal number. You can use an alternative number, including a landline, or create a fake WhatsApp number.

Fortunately, there are ways to log into WhatsApp without using a number tied to your SIM card, or even without a SIM card at all. You can also use WhatsApp on your PC or Fire Tablet, for example.
