House of the Dragon Season 1

The first episode of House of the Dragon was HBO’s most-watched premiere, attracting 9.986 million viewers. Viewers seemed to like it enough because the second episode was able to attract a slightly larger audience.

The second episode of House of the Dragon attracted 10.2 viewers in the US, 0.3 million more than the first episode, according to HBO. Usually Sunday viewings cover about 30-40% of the show’s total audience. By comparison, the Game of Thrones finale was watched by 13.7 million people (19 million including all sources).

In addition, HBO reports that the first episode has already been watched about 25 million times in the past week.

Considering that House of the Dragon is only the second member of the Song of Ice and Fire franchise, such figures are inspiring. So most likely House of the Dragon and its success will largely determine the fate of the entire franchise, as Warner Bros. Discovery executives will be watching closely to see how successful the new series on the universe created by George R.R. Martin will be.

On Rotten Tomatoes has 83% fresh rating with 504 critics’ reviews, as well as 85% fresh rating based on 1717 user reviews. To compare, all Game of Thrones episodes, except the seson 8 have 90%+ rating.

Last Friday, HBO officially renewed House of the Dragon for a second season.
