Based on the popular 2018 video game, the series will be about Kratos, the God of War, who, after being exiled from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse kingdom of Midgard, according to an Amazon description. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged son Atreus to scatter her ashes from the highest peak. It was his wife’s last wish.
Kratos soon realizes that this journey is a disguised epic quest that will test the bond between father and son and force Kratos to fight new gods and monsters for the world’s fate.
Rafe Judkins will host and produce the series, based on the game developed by Santa Monica Studio, and “Iron Man” and “Expanse” writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will also serve as writers and executive producers.
Santa Monica Studio creative director Cory Barlog will also serve as executive producer, in addition to Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of Playstation Productions, Yumi Young of Santa Monica Studio, and Roy Lee of Vertigo. Jeff Ketcham of Santa Monica Studio is a co-executive producer. The series is a co-production between Amazon Studios and Sony Picture Television in collaboration with PlayStation Productions.
