The alarm clocks on your iPhone are one of those functions you use daily. However, how reliable are alarm clocks? In what cases will they work? What if your iPhone is turned off or if you are talking on FaceTime at that moment?
While you are talking, FaceTime will be very uncomfortable if you get distracted and start playing a loud alarm. Don’t worry. Your smartphone won’t stun you with a loud sound right in your ear. However, the alarm will still work with some restrictions.

Can you hear your iPhone alarm during a FaceTime call?
The answer to whether you will be notified of an alarm during a call is both YES and NO. The point is that you will understand that the alarm has sounded, you will have a pop-up window, and the iPhone will emit a short vibration. However, there will not be a loud beep.
This is done to not drown you out with a sudden loud sound. I also do not think your contacts will be pleased to hear the alarm in the middle of a conversation. That’s why Apple decided to silence the alarm.
However, in this case, you may miss it, especially if you’re not using a video call but a regular audio call and putting your iPhone to your ear. I would recommend, in that case, checking the notification counter after the call. Also, if you don’t respond to the alarm, it will automatically reset and ring again after 5 minutes.
How to set the alarm on iPhone
You can set the alarm clock in the standard app on your iPhone. You can also use this app to set a timer or stopwatch. And you have no limits on setting alarms. You can make as many as you need. To do this:
- On the main page of the Alarm Clock app, click on the + button in the upper right corner.
- In the pop-up menu, select when the alarm should ring and the repeat period. Also, pick an alarm sound and a name for the alarm.
- I also advise you to check the Snooze checkbox so that the alarm will snooze on its own after you accidentally oversleep it.
- When you’re done, click Save.
This will save the alarm and automatically activate it. You must use the switch in the list with other alarms to activate or deactivate it. When the switch is green, the alarm is activated.

Also, even though you have not turned off Do Not Disturb or Focus mode, the alarm sound will still pierce this mode and ring. This is handy if you need to concentrate on something important but don’t want to miss the alarm.
What is interesting is that it is impossible to disable this function. The alarm will ring anyway, even if you have Focus mode enabled. It also works with Airplane Mode or Low Battery Mode.
The situation is slightly different if your iPhone is turned off. In this case, the alarm clock will not be able to turn on your smartphone and ring. Perhaps this feature will appear in the future, but for now, you will have to keep your iPhone on for the alarm clock to work.
