Spotify is very popular these days. It is an online audio streaming service that allows you to listen to musical compositions legally and free of charge. In addition to songs, you also have playlists, podcasts, and even radio. Spotify’s algorithms are designed to perfectly select different genres of music to suit the mood of each user. That’s why Spotify is good for everyone, it has something for everyone.

Spotify can be used on both Android and iOS as well as PC and Mac. But a situation can arise where it stops opening. Some users don’t know how to deal with it.

There are several reasons for this situation, but most often it is due to an unstable Internet connection, an application error, a lack of up-to-date updates, or malfunctions in Spotify itself. To be able to use the application freely again, the problem must be fixed, but first you need to find it.

Check if your Internet connection is stable

The first thing to do is to check if the problem is a lack of a good Internet connection. To do this, you can try typing in a query on the Internet and see if everything is working as it should. If you have checked that the other functions which need the Internet are working properly, this is not the problem.

Restart the Spotify app

Rebooting will help fix most of the potential Spotify glitches that can cause it not to open.

To restart the application:

  1. Select the Spotify app window, then tap the Apple Menu in the upper left corner. Then select Force Quit.
  2. From the list that appears, select Spotify and press Force Quit.

Restart the Mac

If you have checked the Internet connection, reloaded the Spotify application, but your problem remains the same, you should reload your Mac. You literally have to make a few moves

Go to the Apple menu and click Restart. Click the Restart button in the pop-up window to confirm the action.

Check for Mac System Updates

You should always keep your Mac operating system up to date to avoid problems while using applications. Lack of updates can be the reason why Spotify doesn’t open.

To check for updates you should:

  1. Open the Apple Menu and select About this Mac.
  2. Next, select Software Update.
  3. The system will check for pending updates. If there is, click Update Now and the update will be downloaded and installed.

Spotify update

It’s also worth checking to see if there are any pending updates for the Spotify app. If there are, you should install them, and only then start the application.

To update the Spotify app, you need:

  1. If there is an update available, you will see a blue dot next to the Spotify app menu button.
  2. Select Update Available . Then select Restart Now.

Turn off antivirus

If you recently installed a third-party antivirus for Mac, it may have flagged Spotify as malware and that’s why you can’t open the application. You should disable the antivirus and Spotify will be available.

To do this, read the manufacturer’s manual on the website of the antivirus you have installed. This will tell you what you need to do to disable the software. You can also do without disabling the antivirus. To allow yourself access to Spotify, whitelist the application. Once you have done this, you will be able to use Spotify without any problems.

What else can be done

If after doing the above things you still can’t access Spotify, try enabling safe mode and see if the app works. If nothing helps, you should contact Spotify support. Write to them and they will help you solve any problems you may have.
