How to fix Vizio TV not connecting to Wi-Fi

If any modern Smart TV loses access to the Internet, users won’t be able to use most of the TV’s features. You won’t be able to use any streaming service or watch anything in your browser. All of this also applies to VIZIO TVs. In case you encounter this problem, here are a few ways how it can be solved.

How to connect your VIZIO TV to the Internet

In order to solve the Internet connection problem for VIZIO TV, you need to:

  1. Using the menu button on the remote control, go to this very menu.
  2. After going through the menu, find the option “Network” in the opened menu. Select it.
  3. There you will see a list of available wireless networks. Select yours.
  4. Enter the password for your router to confirm the connection. Often you can find out the router password by writing it on the back of the router you are connecting to. If you have changed the factory default password to a different password, enter it.

If the standard method doesn’t work, use the methods below to connect your TV to the Internet.

How different types of network suits to VIZIO TV

In case you aren’t able to connect your TV to the Internet, you must first determine what type of network you are trying to connect to.
Guest or shared networks — If you have tried to connect to a guest or shared network that requires a username or password through your browser and failed, try contacting the network administrator to have the device connected. Such networks typically require a login, and since the TV doesn’t have a browser, the network administrator will need to authorize the Mac address of the TV (this can be found in the TV menu under System > System Info).
Wireless Access Points — In cases of this kind of connection, it all depends on the power of your cell phone. If it isn’t enough, the TV connected to the wireless hotspot will be weak.
Personal network — it is recommended to connect to VIZIO via a personal network, as it is the most common type of connection.

Check whether your Internet connection is working at the moment.

To check if your internet connection is working, simply use any other device with the ability to connect to the network. Turn on your laptop, phone, etc., and use the internet. This way you will know if it is working steadily. If it doesn’t work well, contact your provider.

Check that you are using the correct password / wireless key

Your passwords are sensitive to case (capital letters must be uppercase & lowercase letters must be in lowercase). Be sure you enter any special characters such as $, #, *, <, &. Also, check to see if you have the wrong password in principle. You might have accidentally used your password for an online account or something like that.

Switch the router to power mode

Unplug the router and remove the backup battery from the router. Then wait about a minute and plug the backup battery into the router and power it up.

Reset the TV to factory settings

  1. On the VIZIO remote control, press the Menu button.
  2. Select the System option (may be labeled “Help”).
  3. Select Reset & Admin, then Reset TV to Factory Settings or Clear Memory (factory settings).

If the above methods don’t help, use this link to contact technical support or to request service for your TV.
