The Subtitle function is used quite extensively on modern LG TVs. Typically, text dubbing human speech that sounds in the original language (other than the language the user has selected as the primary language in the TV receiver’s settings) is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Subtitles often show the name of the current program and its summary content and announce future TV programs.
Subtitle display in general is a very convenient tool that allows some categories of users to simplify watching video content. For this reason, almost all models of modern TVs are equipped with such functionality. Although many people don’t like subtitles, they cover a part of the screen, distracting from viewing. The problem is that not everyone knows how to turn off the text display. Well, let’s take a closer look at how to turn off subtitles on LG TV.
Why do viewers use subtitles?
When a new film comes out, it’s not easy to get it translated. It’s even more difficult to dub it in the native language, so new films are often subtitled first, and only then comes dubbing. Although many movie lovers prefer to watch it in its original language to feel the emotions and performance of the actors. Some people improve their knowledge of a foreign language because there’s no better practice than listening to native speakers.
In addition, subtitles are the only option for people with hearing difficulties. Finally, subtitles can be present as a way of dubbing TV programs in the national language.
Subtitle control on most modern TVs, including LG TVs, is as simple as possible. It’s possible to change the display status with a few clicks using the remote control buttons. For example, you can easily turn off subtitles on Hisense TV too. However, the problem is that, firstly, many people simply don’t know about this possibility. Secondly, there’s no generally accepted standard in this matter, and each manufacturer solves the problem in its way.

How to turn off subtitles on older LG TVs
Numerous settings of modern TVs aren’t clear to everyone. And if there’s a need to disable subtitles on TV to receive programs with closed captions, you cannot do it immediately. The process of turning off subtitles on different models of LG multifunction TVs is different. However, regardless of the TV model, you can control subtitles, not only turn them on or off, using the remote control.
To disable subtitles on older generation LG TVs, you can use the “SUB” or “SUBTITLES” button, which should be located on your remote control. The button only allows you to turn on and off the display of text at the bottom of the screen, no additional functions are provided.
However, additional functions are available through the menu by clicking on the arrow icon pointing to the left (located on the right side of the screen in the central part of the screen). A menu with the basic TV controls should appear. You will find the SUB item, click on it and select the “Turn off” option.
Here you can, in addition to enabling/disabling subtitles, control the color and font size, adjust the translation language, and even synchronize it with the video in case of resynchronization. In almost the same way you can disable subtitles on your Sony TV.

Well, if you want to turn off CC on your LG TV using the accessibility settings, you have to follow these steps:

- After that, go to the LG TV settings menu.
- Then, tap on the “Accessibility” section which can be found in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Now, navigate to the “Closed Captions” option.
- Finally, to complete the process, in the closed captioning settings, in addition to switching them off or on, you can choose the analog or digital mode, and also you’ll be able to change some digital mode settings.

In which case subtitles cannot be displayed on TV?
Subtitles can be hard, i.e. embedded in the video stream. There are also subtitles which are “soft” (external) and are attached as a text file to the video file. In the latter case it is not possible to display the subtitles. At least not on all TVs. The option to select an external subtitle file must be supported. It is only suitable for playback on your computer, at least in Windows Player, where you can connect subtitles by selecting a specific file.
When watching the movie online or on a streaming service, the subtitle function is usually available in the menu. For example, you can easily turn subtitles on and off when watching content on Disney Plus.
