HTC unveiled the new Vive XR Elite augmented and virtual reality headset at the CES technology show. It doesn’t require a connection to other devices. The device will cost $1 thousand.

The VR helmet works without wires. It is based on the Snapdragon XR 2 chip. The headset offers 4K resolution (2K by eye) with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a viewing angle of up to 110 degrees. The headset has 12GB of RAM and 128GB of permanent storage. Games and applications can be stored directly on the device. The helmet has built-in speakers.

There are also four wide-angle cameras for tracking controllers or hand movements and an RGB camera. The developers claim that the device can work in standalone mode for up to 15 hours, and the battery is easy to replace with a charged one.

The helmet has a fast charging feature (30W) that provides up to a 50% charge in 30 minutes. The Vive XR Elite can be used with regular corrective glasses, and the device also supports wired connection to laptops, smartphones, or gaming consoles via the USB-C port.

If you unplug the battery, the headset turns into glasses. The Vive XR Elite weighs 625 grams with the battery and 240 grams without. The starting lineup of entertainment includes a hundred VR and AR games.

The Vive XR Elite can be pre-ordered on the company’s website. The devices will begin shipping in late February 2023. The kit includes the helmet, a pair of controllers with straps, cables, a case, and a charging station.
