An employee, a senior product manager at Microsoft, tweeted a picture of Notepad tabs. Then a couple of minutes later, he deleted it. Most likely, he did it by accident and thereby showed that Notepad in Windows 11 will have tabs.

Reportedly, along with this, there was a warning on the photo that was tweeted that it was confidential and that it was forbidden to take screenshots and discuss features with anyone.

Thus, it can be concluded that the ability to sort information in tabs in Notepad is at the stage of testing by Microsoft.

It will facilitate and help many people’s work. It could also be the first built-in app to get a tabbed interface since Microsoft added tabs to File Explorer earlier this year.

Four years ago, Microsoft tested tabs in all Windows 10 app features called Sets. As a result, it included support for tabs in Notepad and File Explorer, but Microsoft eventually canceled the project and never sent it to Windows 10 users.

Microsoft may have canceled the Sets feature for Windows 10, but users use third-party tools and apps to bring tabs to life in different parts of the operating system.

So adding tabs to Notepad could change how it works and could mean a move to having tabs in more built-in Windows apps.
