At the Tech World 2022 event hosted by Lenovo’s parent company, Motorola showed off a smartphone that can be rolled out. At the touch of a button, the screen slides in and out, and the wallpaper moves.
In the demo, you can only see the front of the device. The screen wraps around the bottom of the phone. At least as far as prototypes go, this concept seems to be on the “working” side of the spectrum — there are at least battery and cell indicator icons on the screen. The retractable display is a flexible OLED panel that measures 6.5 inches when extended and retracts down to “just over” 4 inches.
Motorola doesn’t give any more information about it yet. We don’t know whether it will ever appear on the market. After all, foldable concepts aren’t too popular right now. This makes it impossible to say for sure whether this product will be successful or not.
