The new Corsair OLED gaming monitor can be flexed into a curved display

Gamers are now divided into two camps when it comes to choosing monitors. Some prefer flat monitors, others prefer curved monitors. These two formats offer different benefits and often mean the difference between selecting an IPS or VA panel when considering an LCD screen. Corsair is developing a new monitor that seems to offer the best of both options.

The company recently announced a 45-inch monitor with 3440×1440 resolution called the Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240. It will be manually bendable to switch between a flat panel and a curved screen. The prototype features a pair of knobs on the sides that allow you to adjust the curvature of the LG-made WOLED panel to a maximum of 800R. You can even change both sides differently separately. However, it’s unlikely that anyone would really need this.

Often, a flat monitor is better suited for everyday use and productivity tasks, while a flexible monitor is better for gaming, as it provides a more immersive gaming experience. However, it all still depends on the personal preferences of users. What will be interesting to see in the case of the new monitor from Corsair is how durable it will prove to be over time.

Samsung’s foldable smartphones have noticeable creases when you bend them open, and their protective screens are known to wear out. Hardly anyone wants to see such flaws on an expensive monitor.

Considering the other specs, the 45WQHD240 would be a more capable gaming monitor. The 21:9 panel has a 240 Hz refresh rate, 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response time, and 99 percent DCI-P3 coverage. It is also G-Sync compatible and can reach a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits. The biggest drawback is that it doesn’t support VESA mounts, but the included stand offers plenty of ports.

The Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240 has no release date or price yet. Judging by the feature set, it will probably cost a pretty penny when it goes on sale. Corsair said it will share more details later this year.
