Unfortunately, sudden glitches are hard to avoid, even on Samsung’s time-proven tablets. No one is immune to such problems, but you can try to fix them. The most effective way, of course, is to reboot your device. This is the first thing that comes to mind for all users. However, a simple reboot doesn’t always help.
Even if you delete all the suspicious programs, and try to clean your tablet from viruses and unnecessary files, it still may not bring results. In that case, resetting your tablet to factory settings may help. As easy as it sounds, it’s easy enough to do.
How to perform a factory data reset on a Samsung tablet
You perform a factory reset on your Samsung tablet to restore the default settings or to delete all personal information. This feature is useful when you want a fresh start. It’s also useful if you need to get rid of your personal data before you send your tablet in for repair or give it to a new owner.
Also, you should know that you cannot restore your personal data after using this option. Save all relevant information before using this function. Factory reset doesn’t affect microSD cards.
So, if you want to factory reset your Samsung tablet, you can follow these instructions:
- First of all, sign in to the main account on your Samsung tablet if you have multiple users on it.
- Then go to the “Settings” app.
- Find and tap on the “Factory reset data” option.
- After that, tap on it again and you will see the information about this option.
- Tap “Reset”, once you’re ready. If you have the lock screen set up, enter the security information, and then if prompted, enter the requested account information. You might be prompted to verify passwords for any account that has been added to your device.
- Finally, tap on the “Delete all” button.
A factory reset may take several minutes while the tablet deletes your personal data and restores your original state. After rebooting, you will see the initial setup page. In some cases, the tablet may require you to enter your account information to confirm your identity.
What can you do with the data on your Samsung tablet before resetting it?
Before you start resetting your tablet, it’s a good idea to copy all important information from your tablet to an external storage device, such as your PC’s hard drive or the cloud. You can move videos, photos, music, and other user files from the folder to the folder by simply connecting your device to your PC with a USB cable.
If you can’t transfer your data to your PC, install a cloud client, such as Google Drive, on your mobile device. And download important data from your Samsung tablet to it.
It’s not necessary to make backups of installed programs, because you can easily find them in the Google Play Store. It makes sense to back up only what is installed from third-party sources or has already been deleted from the Play Store. Samsung recommends using the proprietary Smart Switch utility for this purpose, which, in addition to apps, saves user files and some settings.
To avoid having to enter your username and password when you start your device after the reset, delete your Google account. Immediately before resetting, charge the device to at least 25-30% or connect it to a power source, and remove the memory card and SIM card.

There isn’t a special reset button on your Samsung tablet, but you can press several buttons to put the device into recovery mode. From there, you can reset the device to factory defaults while erasing all data on the device.
It’s not a mistake to make sure that your device is fully charged or plugged in so that your tablet doesn’t die at the most inopportune moment and create additional problems (turn into a “brick”). So, do the following:
- Turn off your Samsung tablet. Make sure it is completely off and not in a sleep state. Once the screen goes out, give it a few seconds and you’re all set.
- Depending on the model of your Samsung tablet, hold down the Power and Volume Up or Power, Volume Up, and Home buttons until the device turns on, entering Recovery Mode.
- Hold the buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds. And once the screen turns on, you can release the buttons, no matter how long you held them.
- You will know that you have entered recovery mode if your tablet doesn’t boot up normally.
- Once you have booted into Recovery Mode, a list of options will appear on the screen, one of which is to reset to factory defaults and clean the device.
- Finally, select this option and follow all on-screen instructions.
