Apple Watch Ultra proved rugged but not easily repairable

The Apple Watch Ultra withstands outdoor travel, but you can’t repair it yourself if something happens to it. iFixit published a teardown video showing that Apple’s new watch isn’t much more repairable than its regular counterparts.

There are external screws on the rear panel that, at first glance, can be unscrewed. However, you will damage the waterproof gasket if you do so. Getting through the front panel would also be a mistake. That way, you won’t be able to avoid breaking the screen, at least not without special tools.

You’ll also have difficulty reaching the battery and other components. The teardown shows how much more speakers the Apple Watch Ultra has than the Series 8. Even if you’re unlikely to use the siren function these speakers are designed for, it should improve the quality of calls and other sound apps.

However, it’s not the kind of advancement in fixability that you saw in the basic iPhone 14. If you break it badly, you’ll have to take it to a professional repair shop. Regardless, iFixit is optimistic that the Watch Ultra is the path to a more repairable Apple Watch.
